Gaithersburg

The City of Gaithersburg MD real estate market occupies 10 square miles in the heart of Montgomery County, Maryland. The southeastern border of the City lies just 13 miles northwest from Washington, D.C.

Gaithersburg is divided into east and west Gaithersburg which is split by I-270. The eastern section of the city is older and includes the historic central business district of Gaithersburg called “Olde Town”. It also includes Lake Forest Mall and the Montgomery County Fair grounds. The west side of the city has many neighborhoods that were designed with smart growth techniques and embrace new urbanism design movement, which promotes walkable neighborhoods that contain a range of housing and job types. These include the award winning Kentlands community, and the Lakelands community. Three additional new urbanism communities currently under construction in the Gaithersburg area include Crown Farm, Watkins Mill Town Center (Casey East and West), and the massive “Science City”.

There are more than 17 shopping centers including Lakeforest Mall, Rio/Washingtonian Center and the Kentlands. Gaithersburg residents find a diverse population as well as a wide range of housing types in warm, welcoming neighborhoods. Indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities, performing arts venues, a skate park, a miniature golf course and award winning recreational programs ensure there is something for everyone in the family.

Recreation is part of the quality of life that makes Gaithersburg an attractive place to live, work, learn and play. Since 1970, Gaithersburg has grown from a City with three parks consisting of nine acres to a City with 23 parks and more than 522 acres of parkland.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is headquartered in Gaithersburg directly west of I-270. Other major employers in the city include IBM, Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Services business area headquarters, MedImmune/AstraZeneca), and Sodexo.

The City of Gaithersburg is served by Montgomery County Ride-On Buses, Metrorail/Metrobus at the Shady Grove Station, MARC Trains as well as a number of taxi and shuttle services.
